Support contracts for the Cisco gear you already run

Reef Support — Third-Party Cisco Maintenance

You don’t have to buy your equipment from Reef to cover it with Reef Support. If it’s Cisco gear in one of our supported families and it’s running in the US, you can put it under contract — expert engineers, advance hardware replacement, and onsite help — whoever sold it to you.

No Reef purchase required · Priced per device · 1, 3, and 5-year terms · US coverage · Coverage beyond Cisco’s end-of-service dates

  • Engineers, not a call queue

Direct access to experienced network engineers for troubleshooting, configuration help, and root-cause work. Unlimited cases for the full term.

  • Parts and people, on site

Advance hardware replacement on a 4-hour or next-business-day clock, with a field engineer dispatched when a remote fix won't do it.

  • Terms that fit your fleet

Per-device pricing, two response levels, and 1, 3, or 5-year terms that get cheaper per year the longer you take.

Third-party maintenance is an established, analyst-covered category: both IDC and Gartner publish research on the third-party maintenance market.

Already own the gear? That’s exactly who this is for.

Most Reef Support contracts don’t start with a Reef order — they start with a network that’s already installed. A wiring closet full of Catalyst switches bought years ago. ISR routers at branch sites. Access points and desk phones spread across a campus. If that equipment is in a supported family and located in the US, it can go under a Reef Support contract today:

  • Bought it from another reseller, a marketplace, or inherited it in an acquisition? Doesn’t matter. Coverage follows the equipment, not the invoice.
  • Past Cisco’s end-of-service date? That’s the most common reason fleets come to us. Cisco’s service window closing doesn’t end the equipment’s useful life, and it doesn’t have to end its coverage.
  • Running SmartNet on part of the fleet? Keep it there. Cover the rest with Reef Support.
  • Only want some devices covered? Contracts are per device. Cover the core now, add the branches next quarter.

How it works — for equipment you already own

  1. Tell us what you’re running — buy a contract online for a device or two, or send us your fleet list through the form below and we’ll build you one quote for everything.
  2. Register your devices — after your order or quote is confirmed, we email a short form for each device’s serial number and install address. That’s all we need to activate coverage — no inspection visit, no original paperwork.
  3. Get confirmed — we confirm your coverage start and send your support access details, typically within one business day of registration.
  4. Call when you need us — open a case any time during your term; engineers, parts, and onsite help follow your response level.
  5. Renew without a scramble — we reach out before your term ends, and renewal takes one order.

Coverage beyond Cisco’s service window

Cisco publishes an end-of-service date for every model — after it, Cisco support ends, but your switches don’t stop working, and neither does our coverage. Some of the most reliable gear in production today — Catalyst 3850 and 2960X switches, ISR 4000 routers — runs past that date. Reef Support is how those fleets stay covered: same engineers, same parts, same response times, for as long as you keep the equipment in service.

How Reef Support fits with your Reef warranty

Every switch, router, access point, and phone Reef sells already includes our 10-year warranty with advance replacement — if the hardware fails, we replace it. Reef Support is the layer above that: the engineers who troubleshoot the problem with you, the guaranteed response clock, and a field engineer on site when the issue isn’t the box at all. Warranty covers the hardware. Reef Support covers the network. (And if you didn’t buy the hardware from us, Reef Support is how you get the engineer layer on gear you already own.)

Works alongside SmartNet

Plenty of networks run both. SmartNet on the newest core equipment, Reef Support keeping the rest of the fleet covered — including the gear Cisco’s own service window has closed on. Reef Support is built to complement the coverage you already have, not to rip anything out.

Why one contract for the whole fleet? Mixed-age Cisco fleets usually end up in one of two states: fully OEM-covered at OEM prices, or partially covered with the oldest — often most failure-critical — gear carrying no coverage at all because its service window closed. Reef Support closes that gap with per-device pricing, one renewal calendar, and one number to call, across every supported family you run.

Reef Support FAQ

I didn’t buy my switches from Reef — can I still cover them?

Yes. That’s the most common way Reef Support starts. Any US-located equipment in the supported families — Catalyst 9300, 3850, 2960X, ISR 4000, Nexus 9000, Catalyst 9100 access points, Cisco 7800/8800 phones — can be covered, whoever sold it to you: another reseller, a marketplace, or gear you inherited with the building.

What do you need from me to start coverage?

Very little: the model and quantity for pricing, then — once you order — each device’s serial number and install address on the short registration form we email you. No original purchase paperwork, no proof of where you bought it. Coverage start is confirmed once registration is complete, typically within one business day.

My 2960Xs are past Cisco’s support window — are they still eligible?

Yes. Eligibility doesn’t depend on Cisco’s service calendar. The Catalyst 2960X and 3850 are two of the most-covered families on Reef Support precisely because Cisco’s window has closed on them while the hardware keeps running. The same applies to ISR 4000 routers past their end-of-service dates.

I bought my gear used or refurbished (not from Reef). Can it be covered?

Yes — coverage follows the equipment, not its sales history. If it’s a supported model, located in the US, and in service, it can go under contract, with the same registration step as any other device.

Do I have to cover my whole fleet, or move everything off SmartNet?

Neither. Contracts are per device, so cover one device, one site, or one family — and plenty of customers keep SmartNet on their newest core gear while Reef Support covers the rest. Add more devices any time.

What does the 20-unit minimum mean for access points and phones?

Access-point coverage is priced per AP and starts at 20 APs; phone coverage is priced per phone and starts at 20 phones. Below that, per-device support costs more to deliver than it’s worth to either of us. Switches and routers have no minimum — one contract covers one device.

What exactly is covered — and what isn’t?

Hardware support and troubleshooting for the covered device: engineer access, advance replacement parts, and onsite field-engineer dispatch per your response level. Cisco software and firmware updates (IOS and phone firmware) remain available through Cisco — Reef Support covers the hardware and the humans, not Cisco’s software distribution.

Do I need a support contract?

No. Every device we sell includes Reef's 10-year warranty, and Reef Support is never required. It's available for the networks that want engineers on call, a guaranteed response time, and onsite help — added peace of mind, on your terms.

How do I register my serial numbers?

After checkout we email you a short registration form — serial number and install address for each device. Your coverage start is confirmed once registration is complete, typically within one business day.

Can I mix Reef Support with SmartNet?

Yes — many customers do exactly that. The two cover different parts of a fleet comfortably.

My equipment is outside the US. Can I get coverage?

Reef Support's standard pricing covers US-located equipment. For equipment elsewhere, contact us — we can arrange a custom quote.

What happens when my term ends?

We remind you ahead of time, and renewal is a single order at the current pricing for your family and level. No lapse in coverage if you renew before the end date.

Can I add coverage later, or for just part of my fleet?

Any time, and in any mix — cover the core now and the branches next quarter. Contracts are per device, so your fleet map is entirely up to you.

Not sure what your fleet needs? Get a coverage quote.

Send us what you’re running — models and rough counts are enough to start — and we’ll map every device to its family and price, then send back one clear quote: coverage options, per-device pricing, and term discounts laid out. No obligation, and no sales gauntlet: if some of your gear makes more sense staying on SmartNet, we’ll tell you that too.

The Reef Difference

Reef Telecom is built on keeping great hardware working longer. It’s why we refurbish, why our gear carries a 10-year warranty, and why Reef Support covers your equipment well past the manufacturer’s service window — every year a device stays in service is a year it stays out of a landfill. And every Reef Support contract helps fund coral restoration through our partnership with the Coral Restoration Foundation.
